What is a CGC evaluation and what does it mean?
Started in 1989, the AKC's CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Adoption Consultations:
To increase the success of adopting a dog into a forever home from a shelter or a rescue, it is important to have a very clear and detailed understanding of the adopter's needs. It is also extremely crucial to know how to specifically evaluate the personality and breed traits, of any prospective dog. Adoption consultations consist of:
Ensuring a complete and thorough understanding of the adopter's needs
Discussing potential shelters and rescues to visit
Accompanying adopters to designated shelters and rescues to evaluate potential dogs for adoption
Conducting exercises that test and evaluate the personality and breed traits of each individual prospective dog
Thoroughly understanding any negative personality and behavior traits and how to properly correct them
Educate adopters about proper nutrition and diet and how it may postively impact any behaviors
Answer any questions and advise adopters about how to help the adopted dog adjust to the new home and family
Having experience in the shelter and rescue environments, it is extremely important to understand the stress these dogs are under and how to ease that stress, so that both adopter and dog will be happy in their new home.
Therapy Dog Evaluations are free, and do not require a CGC or formal obedience training. I am more than happy to volunteer my services to all dog owners interested in being evaluated for a Therapy Dog Team.
